This is such a hard one to even think/talk about. I love the guy, I really do -- ok, people, go ahead and jump all over me -- but plans to replace him should have started as soon as he won the 2020 nomination and the Democratic Party and President Biden should have spent the past 4 years showcasing that person in anticipation of this coming election.
I believe Biden was exactly the right man for the job at that time and what he has accomplished in the past 4 years proves it. However, age IS more than just a number sometimes (that one's for YOU! @MisterWack) . He's never been a great public speaker and his performance at this point is too spotty to fly on the campaign trail. American politics changed forever with the first televised presidential debates between Nixon and Kennedy in 1960. Honestly, Nixon would probably have won that election if not for the contrast between the two candidates on television. Frankly, Kamala Harris would have wiped the floor with Trump last night and come out smiling.
I'm replying to my own answer lol because, among all of that verbiage, I didn't actually answer the question! No, I don't think they will replace Biden at this point. I think that would be just as risky, maybe more so, than sticking with him at this point. What they need to do is be damn sure that Harris is front and center for the rest of this campaign.
@DryGermanGuy I think he just has such a wealth of years of good will built up that no one in the party will nay say him. I mean, he was first elected at 29 years old. One of his abiding traits is his humility, but it may not be serving him in this moment.
Of course, that’s the situation we are in now. But before/when taking office, Biden was supposed to stay only for one term. So, instead of going on a fact-finding mission to name an heir apparent, the DNC… went asleep?
@DryGermanGuy More or less, yes, the DNC took a nap. I'm saying it would be up to Biden to decide to let it be just one term bc his party isn't going to nay say him in anyway bc of his stature within the party. I think he largely flew under the public's radar, at least up until becoming VP; but he has more than 50 years of being one of the most successful political negotiators and bipartisan consensus builders in the senate, ever.
Biden says he is not going anywhere. He still has a healthy amount of money even if donors start pulling out. He still had enough delegates to win the nomination and Jill wants to be the First Lady for another 4 years.

That’s what puzzles me also. Biden went into 2020 wanting to be a one-term president. What has the DNC doing since then? 😕

@Caroline91 Thank you for including me and a very good take you had friend!
No. There's no serious alternative. Lawrence O’Donnell dismisses the idea of a "magic candidate" at about 6:30 into the video.

Who are they going to pick? I don't know if they can.
