Justin Timberlake Arrested on DWI Charges in The Hamptons; Remains in Police Custody

Justin Timberlake has been arrested for driving while intoxicated or impaired in Long Island, New York.

A representative for the Sag Harbor Police Department tells PEOPLE that as of the morning of Tuesday, June 18, the singer, 43, remains in police custody. Police will be releasing a statement later today.

PEOPLE has reached out to a representative for Timberlake for comment.

While police did not confirm charges to PEOPLE, a source says that the "Selfish" hitmaker was arrested on DWI charges after having dinner at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor. He was pulled over after leaving the establishment to drive to his friend's house.

"Nobody was hurt," the source says. "He will be arraigned in about an hour." )

For me it seems they are trying to cancel Justin over dumping cheating Britney and her craziness and are now attacking him because he's a 43 year old married father, as well as dumping older child free Cameron Diaz for a younger hotter. I say he should snap out of this midlife crisis, he's rotten with money and though his career is at an all time low it will likely recover.

I'm surprised he wasn't bailed out before arraignment? Cash bond set at first time offender is likely. Very odd. I think they arrested Martha Stewart, and none escape the law, at least at first. I dislike the act of drunk drivers and will not ride with one and I will not drive if above the legal limit. It shows you are selfish and don't care about others on the road.

Justin Timberlake has found out that his name carries no more weight than anyone else, but what must of really rankled him is that the the cop who arrested him did not know who he was/did not recognise his name, apparently the same cop has arrested other high profile people in The Hamptons over the last months, which has not made him flavour of the month.

Driving drunk is dangerous. Anyone caught DUI deserves what they get. Celebrity status doesn't change the rules.
