No one should lose their jobs here. This woman who had the panic attack is clearly not used to being in an environment where she’s welcome so of course her mind overanalyzes, overthinks, and overwhelms her into a panic attack over a singular, well-meaning interaction. Her trainer was simply trying to be respectful, she might have noticed something that made her question it and ask but she didn’t realize that in doing so she was singling her out and making it clear that she doesn’t pass as well as she thought she did. In conservative towns, not passing as a trans person can be a very serious thing, a reason for someone to assault you just because they don’t like you, a lot of places have gone from lynching black people to lynching trans people. Her fear is valid, she just needs some space to recognize no one is going to kill her and find ways to soothe her anxiety as much as she can while she’s working there.
