No. I think autistic is a sort of internal cypher that makes it harder for them to navigate the social language. Whereas retarded means there are missing or non-functioning parts of the brain so they can never use the standard full potential. There isn't a cypher here - they basically have to be trained like a child all their life.

Not at all. Mentally retarded was what people with severe developmental delays used to be diagnosed with. Now, with autistic, we throw that label at pretty much anything, and making it such a broad spectrum, doesn't really give it any clear health issue. Pretty much anyone can be diagnosed with autism these days.

I think that they are two sides of the same coin. Where mental retardation is when someone's brain is geared towards social interactions at the expense of logic and reasoning. Whereas autism is someone's brain geared towards logic and reasoning at the expense of social interactions. And normal people brains are properly balanced between the two.
