No, but I really like the idea of having US nationals and US citizens. To become a US citizen you have to serve the country in some capacity for at least two years. The military would be an obvious option.
The problem I have with this idea is how will citizenship requirements be managed. If not extremely careful, access to citizenship would be limited to the few, and not the patriots as a whole.

I didn't know that American citizens got to vote on who goes to war. It is funny how people from the land of the so called free and a country for democracy, seems to come up with various reasons as to why their citizens should not be allowed to vote. Or not vote on certain things, we do not have such arguments here in the UK.

I mean it is so easy to send people to war, when you have 0 idea the horrors, and trauma, and death that comes with it.

It is a serious decision to decide if we go to war, because of how many lives are affected. Someone who has felt the horrors should make those decisions

To be fair, everyone is potentially subject to military service. Then for the US, as is often said all those with guns are there to protect the homeland, that is basically military service.

What if you have a disqualifying attribute like physical handicap, mental illness, or any other number of things that would prevent you from becoming a soldier?

The way we have it currently in the US, we already have to sign up for selective service when we turn 18. In other words, in order to be an American male citizen in this country, you agree to allow the government to call you up in a draft when we are at war.

Interesting question. If that were the case, I can see it being something that puts an end to war once and for all. What soldier is going to vote for putting their self on the front line and in mortal danger. It could possibly happen in the very first vote and weed the warmongers out. Leaving all subsequent voting safe from it happening again.

Ideally but countries don't allow votes on war by the populace. You might be invaded by the time a vote can be organized.
