Why do we keep believing popular but long since contradicted by reality theories?
I'm not just talking about "Climate change" regularly failure to predict future climate with their recurring 12 years from no return to false models. Given the relatively short time frame of such failed predictions anyone who simply lived long enough would be a fool to keep buying such prophecies of Chicken little. No need to understand science or history.
I'm talking about the harder but still obvious if you know history or human nature failures such as the Malthusianism overpopulation prediction. Here again you see anther chicken little screen that preys mostly upon the young but at least one that would take you longer to see first hand without knowing history or science.
Nonetheless like Climate change theories it represents an area of education in history our schools are completely ignoring letting kids fall victim far too early. In this case with personalty devastating results.
The short answer is we know from history people (including children) are on net great assets not liabilities.

What climate predictions was wrong?
Unless you count stuff going shitty much faster and much earlier than expected a "false prediction".

Rather than list them myself I will just give you a reference to someone else's list down memory hole:

The simple answer is "politics"
Politicians farm such votebanks as they know pandering to these people will make their candidates popular. It's why you find conspiracies often pandering to right wing voters.
Overpopulation is clear real only child molesters say otherwise because they need a fresh stock of victims
Anyone who attributes a rather unlikely motive to a well researched and historically proven opinion isn't seriously disputing the issue.
