Why are people in dodgy countries obsessed with waving guns about?

Here's some angry Houthis waving their guns about in public. It's a sight we see time and time again in dodgy countries worldwide. You pretty much know a country is fucked up when you see people carrying guns on the street just to make a point.

Yemen has been in a decade-long civil war as the Houthis maintain control of parts of the country. The Houthis want control over all of Yemen, and also other areas, and so have also been attacking ships of other countries in places like the Red Sea. Several countries have joined the United States in warning the Houthis of consequences but they continue their attacks, so the forces joined with the US have responded by attacking military targets controlled by the Houthis. They are pissed off that anyone dares to protect the people they are attacking so they think that waving guns around is going to scare everybody into submission.

Yeah. There are no accepted public institutions for governance is the problem. Hence they are dodgy benighted countries where guns are held in the air.

Odd that civilization started in the middle east but has never moved on. They are still in the age of empires and strong men. It has been at least 10,000 years of not taking the next steps.

That’s because the western phrase “Say cheese” roughly translates to “Show us what you have” in Arabic. But western media is biased so you never see such pictures of people standing around an ice cream cart.

No, a small subset (7% in London) of police occasionally carrying firearms (most of the time they're in vehicles), usually protecting terrorist targets doesn't make for "carrying guns on the street just to make a point", let alone "whenever they feel like it".

Governments do shady things for sure. That said, I have no doubt that if any random country had all the power of the U. S. it would be doing equally bad things so as an American, I must try to fix my own country and not worry about what others think.
