There’s no documentation from Roman records on Jesus whatsoever and no Roman, Greek or Jewish historian mentions him in the first half of the first century, nor does any scholar, aristocrat or statesman say anything about him at all. Could it be because he didn’t exist?

That’s the problem. Nobody saw him alive. His disciples didn’t exist either. Everything written about him is after half a century after the time he was supposed to have lived. Nobody alive in the first half of the century mentions his name. Nobody

Here’s the thing about “everything written about him”. We’re talking about a different time, a different culture, different lives. Most of the people back then were illiterate (but not dumb!!) They had to resort to oral tradition and were usually very good at that. Oral tradition changes over time (like written tradition), but if you have no other choice than to remember the words you'll repeat them over and over.

There was not one culture in Israel at that time. There were Jews and then there were Hellenists, Syrians, Persians, Egyptians, Romans. How do we know this? The history of Israel tells us that these nations have all ruled over or occupied the territory. The oral tradition in Hellenistic societies was not nearly as strong as in the Jewish society.
Enter an interesting figure in Christian history: St. Paul, a man of Jewish descent who had the ability to speak and write in Greek! He wrote his letters between 50 and 64 AD. He tells us that he was a former persecutor of Christians, someone who was more than happy to send to prison anyone who spoke about this Jesus character. He also speaks about his own personal interactions with Peter, the disciple of Christ. Much of Paul’s writings are answering questions and reprimanding churches so that people can get an idea of what this Jesus had said.

Enter many more hellenistic and roman christians. They knew what Jesus taught them and they wanted the whole story. They asked legitimate questions about him and that in turn lead to the writings of the so-called gospels in the 60s to 100s of the first century. Since many of them were far removed from Israel and had nothing in common with jewish culture the authors set the narratives in their own world and time. But they knew very well what happened and how it was meant.

So then, where are these writings? Well…What material do you suppose they were using? It’s incredibly rare to have an original manuscript of anything over 200 years of age because the writing instruments and medium were always biodegradable! Most important documents were written on papyrus which was made from crushed, flattened reeds woven together and dried. So unless you’re were writing on clay or stone you could guarantee that what you wrote would be disintegrating within a couple of hundred years in most cases. Now if all you have is papyrus, and if you had something important to share with the world, you better make copies. And thus, the occupation of scribe was very lucrative because there was a constant need to replace aging documents.
That’s why the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls was so wonderful and important. Hundreds of papyri survived (mostly) intact for over 2000 years (including copies of Paul’s letters and the gospels) due mainly to the unique circumstance of where they were located: right near the Dead Sea, one of the driest places in the world.
So the evidence for Paul writing letters (or Plato’s writing The Republic for that matter) is entirely a matter of these kinds of surviving manuscripts. While the originals are not available to be seen anywhere, the copies (or copies of copies) are available to be seen in museums all over the world.

There's not really reliable records from that time, in general. But evidence that a person named Jesus Christ existed is vastly different from evidence that that person was the son of a god. Don't assume the proofs have anything in common.

I’ve read the King James’ Bible and I’ve also read it in Greek and Latin, but the Bible isn’t a historical book. It’s a collection of stories written long after Jesus was supposed to have lived and can’t be verified. Well, most of them anyway.
