Some people are just so attuned to negative that they hear it in everything, even something complimentary.
Do you know someone you'd consider an expert at instantly spinning a positive comment into an all-out argument? What do you think motivates this tendency?
They’re negative people…. So they just take anything and turn it into drama.

I understand what you are talking about. If I make a comment about a young woman being attractive, I quite often get a response accusing be of being a perv, creep, pedo, stalker, etc. I haven't chased after young women since I was a young man, but that doesn't mean that young girls all became ugly!
I think this is a mindset that is learned in the toddler years. Another user was recently telling me about a relationship in which the guy did something that disappointed the girl, and then he started punishing himself. . . like a toddler giving himself a spanking so mom or dad won't need to do it.
Hmm this is one matter I'm completely oblivious to. I don't think I've ever turned a compliment into an argument, unless I misinterpreted it and assumed it was offensive.
Actually the more I wrack my brain, the more I'm vaguely remembering some people that reacted exactly like that. On Instagram I'll compliment people's way of thinking in response to a post and sometimes they think I'm being sarcastic or something and start getting defensive and/or start insulting.
I think it's usually just misinterpretation.My parents 😬
One of the many reasons I chose to be homeless at a young age rather than stay homeI know a few. Some are stupid and some are just to arrogant to not show false modesty. And some don't want you to be getting to friggen close.
I have often wondered why feminists are like that
