It's Wicked Wednesday, and we hate to give you a Math problem, but this could result in some interesting information about GaG members.

Question: How much of your life (in percent) have you been single?

Let's define single as not being in an exclusive relationship, which includes, but isn't limited to, marriage.

Here's what we'd like you to do.

1. Take your age in years (AGE)

2. Take the number of years that you have been in committed relationship (s), not single (RELATIONSHIP)

3. Use this equation to calculate your single-percentage

Single-percentage = 100 times [(AGE minus RELATIONSHIP) divided by AGE]

For example, if you are 40 and been in an exclusive relationship for 10 years...

100 times [(40-10) divided by 40] = 100 times [30 divided by 40] = 100 times 0.75 = 75% of your life you've been single

NOTE: If you're not good at math or don't want to deal with this equation, just estimate your Single-percentage

I can't vote in my own poll... I've been single 42% of my life, married twice, once for 20+ years.

99 percent once when I was 25 a girl for 3 weeks. I can't remember her name. One girl for a couple weeks most people thought of us as together. Her name was Mandy and I met her at a resort party. I had to just start making with her and I will always regret decisions with her. I will never actually be wanted and have no known memory of it. Mandy got me super drunk one day and told me that she doesn't find anything attractive about me. Another girl years later told me that she was a slut and fucked every guy she knew but will never have sex with me ever. I am a one person sort of friend to a female and the friend at the time is like stimming. The memory of that female is the only thing that can soothe me. If there is no current female friend my sex drive consumes every part of me so strongly that I have absolutely no control. I say the wrong things and my body completely puts out very strong sexual energy. It causes females to never get to know me. I started maturbating at about 8 without even knowing what it was. If it wasn't for porn I wouldn't have allowed myself to live past 30. I stopped porn entirely but it doesn't matter. Now I'm just incredibly emotional and females are repulsed by the sexual energy I transmit.

Oh, jeez…. not sure there’s a clear-cut answer, haha. I’d say most of the time after age 12 or so I’ve some sort of “girlfriend”, varying degrees of seriousness. Also had many “undefined” relationships in my 20s, where we never really fully committed to anything just given the transient nature of the college years. Not really a “girlfriend” per se, but someone I was seeing, and I’m pretty sure it mostly was mutually exclusive. Two chicks are bound to kill you, you only need one to drive you sufficiently crazy😂 But yeah, I think the young whippersnappers are calling them “situationships” these days.

If we go off of serious declared relationships, I’m really only dealing with two, for a total of 21 years between them (4 and 17, respectively). That’s fairly easy to calculate (if I knew math better😂)…. what’s that, like 47%, roughly?

I don’t think I have the time stamps needed to really calculate the rest accurately. Loose math, looking like 27% or so, if we just say I was involved with someone for 33 out of 45 years.

Hope I didn’t botch the math, I saw your formula afterwards. I was going be the “is/of” formula I was taught. I’ve always just found really strange, roundabout ways of arriving at the often-correct answer, but I couldn’t even tell you how I did it or show the work on paper. My teachers would be like “what is this? I mean, you’re right, but how did you get here?”😂

18 - now hubby for 23 years


Looks like 20 weeks + 1 day + 1 year + 23 years = 24.5 years of 41.4 in a relationship


Soooo, my answer is: 16.9 years without, percentage is:

40.8% of my life single.

I was single from 0-20. I had a couple of situationships and talking stages here and there in high school but never a proper relationship until I was 20, haven’t been single ever since.

So all in all, I spent about 67% of my life single.

Combined relationship time is 34 years, so single just slightly more than 50%.

Steady girlfriends from age 16-27. I lived with one gorgeous lady for about a year starting when I was 34. And lived with an amazing lady for about 2 years starting when I was 36. Then I met my wife when I was 40 and have been with her for 30 years.

So, no relationships for my first 16 years. There were about 10 years total between the ages of 16 and 40 when I wasn't in a relationship. In total, that's 26 years being single out of 70.

Around 44 out of 70 years in relationships. So about 62.9%, call it 63%, of my life, give or take, not in a relationship.

I've been VERY happy except for the 7 year gap from age 27 to 34 and after the break up with a woman I loved with all my heart when I was 38 or so.

I made a mistake in my math. I've been in relationships for about 63% of my life and single for about 37%.

Roughly 85% to 90%.
I had a girlfriend in `81 for about 2 or 3 hours. another for about 3 months in `82, another for about 2.5 months in `83, another for MAYBE 3 weeks in `84, another for maybe an hour in `85, there was one in `87, I think, for about 5:00, and another for 10 years and 2 months between `91 and `01. At that point, the one from `82 came back for about 30 seconds and, 5 years ago, the one from `83 came back for about 2 weeks.
So, what does that come out to, 10,8 years? I'd say that's roughly 90%.

as close as i can calculate with your formula, i've been single about 87% which is 1½ years of a committed relationship plus about another year total of short-term relationships here and there. but really i've always been with someone for about 6 years of my life, just not committed or exclusive relationships

But I actually have been in committed relationships only about 10 years out of my 70 years.

But for the first 16 years I had to be single because I wasn't old enough to even be in a relationship.

Calculating based on exclusive relationship, 0.75% of my life I've been single.

Calculating based on being around people in general (family, kids, etc.) 0% of my life. I have always had people around which has been stretching for me.

What a weird way to work out a percentage...

I don't know the exact time frames so at a guess.

My first relationship was about 9 months

Second was 2 months

Third was just under a year so let's say 11 months

Current is 9 years in August

9+2+11=22

22÷12=1.8 (years)

1.8+9= 10.8

I'm 27 so

10.8÷27= 0.4

So 40% of my life so far has been spent in a relationship therefore 60% has been spent single.

Why? Because women have done absolutely nothing but disappoint me and make me angry and test my patience.

There is an even simpler way to do the math. We will use my own numbers.

Step 1: I am 31. 29 of those 31 years I have been single.

Step 2: 29/31=0.935

Step 3: 0.935 comes out to 93.5%

That means 93.5% of my life has been spent single.

I'm 41. Single for 7 years in my 20s. Now single 7.5 years. Almost 15 years total. It's not by choice either... I meet new people all the time and most men give me a reason as to why I have to stay single. I don't partake in the shallow hook up culture either.

Gosh, I was single from 0-14 thereabouts. Since then, just 2 years probably. We'll round up to me being 27, so 16/27 years single= 59%
