How do you define first love?

For me, I think a first love is someone whom you genuinely like and actually feel romantical connection for, which will last for a long period of time if not forever. But someone told me that your first love is the first person you have the puppy love for. What do you think?

Speaking about most people in general, including myself: You had been listening to songs about teen love and watching romantic films (including Disney fairy tales) about true love all your life. You fantasized about experiencing it yourself.

When you finally do and it is reciprocated, and you fall into deep infatuation, it is a dream come true.

There is no better feeling in the world than infatuation, especially when it is for the first time. It feels just the way you thought true love would feel. Your mind and senses are dizzy with drugs (feel good hormones). There is the background soundtrack and everything.

Infatuation isn't the same as love, but it's the feeling that people associate with love. You don't "fall" in love. You fall in infatuation.

But when you're young, you fall hard. All your "and they lived happily ever after" fantasies finally came true. You project all your fantasies onto your girlfriend/boyfriend. You think you will never ever love anyone else.

Your first love is the person who kindles your heart in a special way for the first time, awakening feelings of love that go beyond the childlike affection and appreciation one has for one’s parents, siblings and childhood friends. It’s the reason feelings of confusion or the sense of “leaving your comfort zone” often accompany the realization that you’re in love for the first time.

Yeah, when it ends it’s something that hurts a bit, deep in your chest, and lingers with you for a while.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a first love. I’ve dated before, but my feelings were never strong enough to hold that person back. It’s always been a ‘meh’ feeling after every heartbreak. Guess I haven’t met the one yet.
