Be careful, folks!
What is a dumb injury you have gotten because of carelessness?
Be careful, folks!
I remember a time when I was quite young and pretty naively idiotic that I got hold of a pocket knife somehow. Now, I heard from my dad (who I put blind faith in) that you test the sharpness of the blade by taking your finger out and lightly rubbing it against your finger. I spent quite some time sharpening the blade on a rock and wanted to figure out how sharp it was now.
What little me failed to realize was that he meant horizontally, not vertical. So, I went to my index finger, put the blade and sliced my finger. I did it a couple times, then was wondering why it was hurting (there was no blood at first-- felt like a paper cut). Then it hurt, and little me didn't connect why... So I just went to the next finger to try it out.
After about 8 fingers (thumbs were spared), I gave up and decided it was sharp enough. Then I went away and a minute later all my fingers started hurting and bleeding. Running to my dad (who I thought told me this was the "way" to go), he looked at me and was like "*shaking head* you idiot-- of course if you slice yourself with a blade you get cut."
Then in my little head, it all clicked. That was one of my most stupid moments in my life lol
Awww, haha. You got a good lesson that day.
The sad thing was I even knew that knives cut things by that point 😱 I just placed blind faith in my dad and misinterpreted what he said.
Yeaaah, wasn't my proudest moment walking around with 8 bandaids. They were totally fine for a bit too. Like they all just suddenly started bleeding at once 😂
Your fingers were calling you a dumbass, for sure. XD
@TakeMaker Laughing at my pain? How rude! Nah I'm jk. I was a complete idiot in that whole situation 😂
@asker For sure. 😅
I did something very similar myself when I was a kid. Have this stuff called pampuss grass, pretty white fluffy things on stalks. I tried pulling some out the ground but it's quite smooth so my hand just slipped up the stem over all the leaves. It stung a fair bit but didn't get the grass out of the ground so I tried my other hand. Then realised I had lacerated both hands with the nasty stuff and the were dripping with blood... felt like a right dick, haha!
I've been this guy and it didn't work out, I'll leave it at that...

Tony, you dumbass. 😑😂
Shit happens, lol.
I once got a nasty cut on my right palm when I was cutting some veggies and pressed down on the knife after positioning it correctly. Little did I know but I had laid it down with the blade up.
I messed up my right wrist last summer semester after I went to fill up my water bottle at one of those fillup stations. There was no mat in front of it to prevent slipping so of course I slip and caught myself with my hands, but my right wrist was at a really weird angle and.. yea. Still gets sore to the pint that I can't really bend it without pain once in a while.
Likewise, I biked down to the riverside last summer with my boyfriend to pick some blackberries. I laid down my bike right behind me and and apparently forgot about it as I stepped backwards right onto it. Caught myself with my left hand as it was on a bit of an angle but my wedding finger ended up meeting the same fate as my right wrist. 😖
Dang. All these things coming out of nowhere to destroy us!
I just finish cutting up a cucumber and tried to put the knife back in it's protective sheath thingie, missed, and it went into my palm. I washed my hand off but it still hurt like hell. I then tried to put it back in using my other hand, missed again, and stabbed myself in my palm... again. So I had two hurt hands and couldn't lift at the gym for a week and half because of it. I could barely drive.
O_O Ow x 2.

Wore flip flops to take the washing out, slipped off a step and dislocated my ankle.
Stupidly let go when on a rope swing and landed on my ankle, fractured it and had to crawl back to the house across a field.
Tried moving a tree trunk on my own, it rolled and pinned my hand between it and a railway sleeper. Took weeks to recover.
Broke my nose standing too close to someone batting, broke my nose turning off the alarm on my phone too...
Dropped a joint of roast meat when pulling it out of the oven, squashed my hand against the oven door and burnt the entire back of it. All the skin came off.
Was running when I was a child and slipped down the bank behind our house, cutting my whole thigh open on a slate that was poking out.
Accident prone, I see. 😓
Pretty much all my injuries are dumb ones. I once was playing hide and seek and hid in a cupboard and it took me a few minutes that my leg was pressed right up against an iron that had just been on and I had a massive red welt on my leg.
My most impressive injury though would have to be when I tripped over a single step and hurt my foot but went to school (which is a three story building which didn't have an elevator at the time) the next day because my dad told me I couldn't have done anything bad from that. Ended up getting an X-ray and found out that I had broken my foot... tripping over a single step.
I have a friend who did same with missing a step.
In highscool, i ran through my house with my hand flailing around. i got to a door way and my right had stayed on the door way while the rest of body went out the door way. My entire hand was swollen and i couldnt feel my pinky for a year and it took me 3 years to be able to bend it. Nearly 5 years ago , i went hiking in the spur of the moment but i went with no shoes. I tore both of my achilles, my ankles where swollen for like 3 months it took half a year to heal and almost a year to be without pain. About 10 years ago i tore my acl , my brother threw me down the stairs, still when i run i have some discomfort.
😐😕😓😫 Just ouch.
My fire alarm was going off and I couldn't reach it and all I had were wooden fold up chairs which I knew was a bad decision to begin with but was all I had to shut it off. So I got up on the chair and was struggling because I was trying to move cautiously so the chair wouldn't collapse on me and it ended up happening anyways and the alarm fell on the floor. After I was hurt and hit the chair it opened back up and I was so pissed. I broke 2 ribs, bruised another rib close to my spinal cord, knocked my hips out of alignment, herniated few discs in my back in which a month after the fall one slid into my spinal cord and sciatic nerve causing me to be off work for 2 months. I've never broken a bone and fall on a stupid chair and get all messed up.
Oh, my gosh! All of that from a chair fall? 😮
Yep. The only thing I could think is I hit it just right. The back of the chair hit my side and my arm was over it so jamed right up in my armpit and my hip hit the edge of the seat. I've had a car roll off a jack and land on my foot and didn't break and got all messed up from that. Happened close to 2 years ago and still have back and hip problems
A couple of years ago, I was sewing something small on the machine. I put my left hand in too far, trying to control the cloth. Next thing I know, the needle went right through that skin between the thumb and index finger. I instinctively took my hand away (as you do when you hurt yourself), but the needle was still in the downward position. Yeah... ouch. I ripped my own hand and ironically had to get a couple of stitches 😂
I'm a lefty too, so it was a bitch to do simple tasks for the next couple of weeks.
😐 Oh, man, the cringe factor of that was real.
hehehe
I sliced my hand and fingers open in multiple places when trying to knock the bottom of a bottle off.
Using a hammer.
By hitting it at the opening.
Where I was holding it.
And I got drunk one night at my uncles house, and after having a few joints too, decided I was going to cycle home. Now, if you think your co-ordination is bad when drunk, when you're stoned, there is some kind of motor co-ordination effect it has that basically makes it impossible to drive in a straight line.
After struggling for some time trying to stay on the cycle path at 3am, I cycled around a migrating hobo and fell off in front of them (cannot identify actual gender). Pretty sure I cracked a rib. I then gave the tramp about 10 pounds for witnessing my fall... for some reason, before outstaying my welcome while walking along chatting to them and was called a "pleb" before I decided to try to continue cycling home.
You're just full of stories. Haha.
I've got more but you've gotta keep something back :P
Be careful, if the tennis balls were dirty there's a big chance of infection!
Clean & desinfect carefully and I hope your tetanus vaccination is up-to-date?
Oh an stupid accidents? I'm clumsy so... bruzed upper legs from hitting the corner of a table, bruzed toes from hitting that block of concrete I hadn't seen, up to broken glasses when I stepped over a barrier hiking but my umbrella got tangled up with it :o
I cleaned it, though it hurt like hell under running water. 😕
That block of concrete came out of nowhere! 😜
Haha. That's okay. 😜
Just finally peeled off the dead skin from where I grabbed a hot cast iron pan handle with no oven mitt a couple weeks ago🙄
This is me in the kitchen more times than I'd like to admit😂
Grandma's Boy! 😂
Broke my pinkie toe. I was messing around with my soccer teammates, and I missed the ball. We were playing around some poles, and I kicked the pole pretty hard as my friend moved the ball away. That was a painful lesson and day haha.
I am sorry to hear about your fingers! Ouch. :(
Agh, and I'm sorry about your foot! I know that hurt!
Thanks, it was long ago and it was definitely awkward haha. I got to leave class early so I could hobble to my next one, though.
Was beyond drunk with a friend. Driving back home with bike through some dark alley that neither of us really knew. God knows why we went there instead of the usual way.
Anyway, turns out that 1 meter wide path through that house area had no street lights at all and decided to have about a 30 cm big wooden pole in the middle. Needless to say that I didn't see it and crasht in it with full force. Went flying. Huge wound on my lower leg. About 20 cms long mix of sprain and abrasion.
Dang! That's not fun at all.
Had worse.
The other morning I tripped getting up going to the bathroom and banged my head hard on the corner of my bookcase. I just carried on and went back to bed lol i was semi awake/asleep. I wake up with this huge bump and scab on my head with like dried blood running away from the wound in my scalp but the funny thing is there was no blood on my sheets or pillow cases lol
Your sheets thank your blood for staying on your head.
Haha ikr?
Ohhh god. 😘 ❤❤
Lol I grabbed a dvd from a stack of dvds that were on a high shelf... There was a huge rock paper weight on top of the stack of dvds and I pulled a dvd without removing the rock first and it fell and hit me on the head. I ended up getting stitches. Lmao.
You must've really wanted that DVD. xD
My mom left a knife half way through a watermelon and left it unattended for a few seconds and being a "helpful" child, I tried to cut the rest of the way through.. Mom came back a got shocked, which scared me so I let go. Knife slid out and cut my right calf. Went to the hospital and got stitches.
Ouchhhhh.
It didn't hurt, actually. But there was a lot of blood xD
Well, at least there was no pain, hah. It just didn't look pretty.
Playing around with my sister in the house. Chased her to her room and for some reason I put my hand at the part of the door where the hinges. She closes the door and my thumb gets crushed at the nail 😖 The nail bed was black and swollen, took like half the school year for the old nail to fall off and regrow. I was about 12/13.
😓 Oh, my, ow. I'm so worried something like that will happen to my nail. Hah.
I've pinched fingers here and there, and I hope the nails are fine every time. 😂
I was drunk and dancing at a club in Tijuana one night in my early 20s and ended up breaking my foot. I walked a long way back to the CA border hanging onto my 2 guy friends I was with. That was pretty lame.
Ouch. Good thing you had some support!
I was trying to cut a hole in the top of a pop bottle lid so I held it in my fingers with my hand cupped around it and stabbed a knife straight into the middle of it - right through the lid and into my hand.
Owwwwwww. 😥
It didn't puncture too far into my hand - maybe like half a centimeter? If definitely hurt though lol.
I have no doubt about that, haha.
I put on oven mitts to take something out of the oven. But the dish in the oven was too big, so I spread my arms to grab its sides and burned my arm on the side of the oven. I now have 3 dark stripes on my arm.
😱 How long ago was this?
Not "really" an injury, but recently when we were making nettle soup with the children at my work, while out gathering nettles, I at some point forgot that they burn, and just grapped a handful when a kid handed them to me.. tsk tsk tsk.
Agh, ouch. Those kids are causing us pain! Hah.
I bruised my collarbone falling off a horse because I wasn't really focusing on what we were doing. There was a coyote in the field or something and my horse spooked and I went flying over his head.
Oh, my gosh. I'm glad it was just a bruise!
I was using a paper knife to slice a drawing in half and as it slid across the paper, it found a figer of mine as well. Looked like I sliced a peace of pepperoni off.
😓😫 Ouch, ouch, ouch.
Do u paint?😊
@phoenix2000 used to. That was an architectural drawing.
Oh I do architectural drawing for the moment. And I'll study architecture
@phoenix2000 I used to study architecture as well but I went over to IT. None the less I work in an architecture bureau.
Oh that's nice. Since a little girl I wanted to become an architect and now I'm making my dream come true😊
@phoenix2000 That's cool :)
