If you're consist with your workout, you should begin seeing results to a very small degree within two weeks or so. A rest day is important to take because you get stronger and build muscle-mass essentially through muscle scarring, when you kinda 'tear' your muscles then they repair themselves by building new muscle strands that are thicker and more plentiful in numbers. If you were to workout each day on end, you muscles would get so weakened down that, if not given a chance to 'rest and repair', you'd probably end up with an injury or two.

well honestly, overworking can lead people to snap and get bored of the routine. even bodybuilders have rest days or cheat days. allow yourself the time to recharge so u can get up and kill it again.
Don't plan on seeing results on any particular day, just crush your muscles, get your rest, get on a workout program and lift your ass off. You'll see results soon enough. Be patient, be consistent. good luck!
