I’m travelling a few hours out of Sydney by train to somewhere else in NSW over the weekend, to attend a party. I’m staying overnight at my girl friend’s house (just a friend). It’ll be a dinner party at a fancy USA type bbq diner. What should I wear to the party and what kind of change of clothes should I wear for the next day, to travel home?

For the dinner party, I'd say go for something nice but not too formal. Since it's a BBQ, you probably don't need a super fancy dress or anything. Maybe go for dark skinny jeans or a cute skirt with a nice top or blouse. You could even do a sundress if it's warm out. Make sure to bring a light jacket in case it gets chilly at night too.
As for the next day clothes, pack something comfortable for the train ride home. Leggings or yoga pants with a loose top would work great. Make sure to bring slides or flats - nothing with heels if you'll be walking around the station. And pack an extra outfit just in case, plus your toiletries and whatever else you might need.
Don't stress too much about looking perfect, just dress cute and have fun! I'm sure your friend will make you feel right at home. Mostly focus on relaxed clothes so you can enjoy your trip without worrying about your outfit. Have a great time at the party!

For a fancy USA-type BBQ diner, you'll want to strike a balance between casual chic and a touch of sophistication. Opt for a stylish yet comfortable ensemble, like a pretty blouse paired with tailored jeans or a playful midi skirt. A pair of ankle boots or stylish flats can complete the look, making sure you stay comfortable yet fashionable throughout the evening. Since it's a dinner party, adding a statement accessory, like a bold necklace or a fun clutch, can elevate your outfit perfectly.
For the next day, while traveling home, think comfort but don't compromise on style. A relaxed-fit dress paired with comfortable sneakers or a cozy sweater with leggings both make for easy, fashionable choices that won't feel restrictive during your train ride. It's always a good idea to layer as well, just in case the weather or train's air conditioning calls for it. And don't forget a stylish yet practical tote to carry your essentials, plus anything extra you might need for the journey. Safe travels and enjoy your party!
