Something broke into my sister's chicken run that was attached to a chicken coop. One chicken had 6 chicks and was a good defender against the other chickens, though none of them really bothered the chicks. She keeps all the chickens in the coop at night, but she lets the mother and her chicks stay in the chicken run all night. Something broke through a small weak spot in the chicken wire and got in. It killed and ate most of the mother and all 6 chicks. Never found 5 of the chicks but one was half-eaten. The mother defended them to the end. The foxes are too big to have done it. What small animal in Missouri would/could do this?

My father used to keep chickens. I never had to pay for eggs. The only chickens I keep are in my freezer
I probably would, but our lot isn't large enough to meet minimum town "coop set-back" laws. Larger lots on the other end of town do.
When my brother and I were young, grandma let us each pick a chick out of a magazine. We both picked out chickens with fancy hairdos.
What country is that from? Weird!
I use to have chickens. 🐓
It was probably a fox or a cat. They are very sly.
Fox maybe, but it would have to be a glutton to eat a big hen and 6 chicks. Most cats couldn't eat that much either. They are into smaller birds. Maybe a bobcat though.
Quite often yes. In a sandwich or burger or a roast dinner
Maybe something in the weasel family. Ferrets included. Possibly more than one made the attacks.
In my freezer, chicken strips 🤣😎
You forgot to mention the chicken you choke all the time. 🤣😂
Oh yea that too 😎, I make 2 🏀🏀 bounce at the same time... I'm talented 😁
😯😯😯🤣
Hehe 😁
So your chicken is a stripper? 😯
Oooh yeeeea 🤩🫦😎
Rats? Weasels?
Too small to eat a hen. Maybe a chick or two. Also a hen would probably kill a rat.
A mink or ferret, maybe?
I don't think they are big enough to eat a full-grown hen and 6 chicks.
I had one for dinner...
I don’t… but I can’t have one. Bs state laws
Snake, raccoon, cat, dog
A snake swallows prey whole, and doesn't leave them torn apart. A raccoon is more like it as they can climb pretty good up the side of a cage where a dog can't.
Raccoon or opossum possibly
I might believe a raccoon, but possoms are marsupials and eat mostly fruit and stuff. Most possums I've seen are no bigger than the hen was.
I don’t currently but grew up with them
Coyote maybe
That might be a possibility, though my sister said she had never seen any around.
