No, because DVD is much better. I gave up DVDs for maybe 6 years but starting to stock up on them again now as streaming stuff becomes a joke.
Yes, VHS was great back in the day but it took time to rewind tapes (a long time, as I recall) and sometimes the tape would break and be a pain in the butt to fix. Also the quality level sucked -- well, kind of. What really happened is most VHS units sold had sucky quality. You had to pay 2 to 4 times more for a really good unit that would make a tape look just like a live broadcast. People who copied tapes a lot would get two of the high quality units to copy between.
VHS tapes also take up a lot of room compared to DVD. The downside of DVD is the prices were insane sometimes. Although now you can find cheap DVDs used or even new a lot.
And the better-quality picture, like with Beta, got tossed out the window for an inferior system. 🙄
Laser Disc also didn't survive, probably because of the size.
My family still have them stored somewhere. They also have a VHS player. Those machines where definitely built to last.
I was very young when everything switched to CDs before it all went digitals and I definitely miss CDs even if technologically what we have now is so much more powerful
Yes and no, I don’t miss the terrible quality of them in comparison to other forms of physical media, but I do enjoy having bits of physical media instead of everything being digital
VHS players are no longer made, by anyone. So most people have given their old tapes to charity or the trash. Plus, all the players I had eventually used to eat and destroy tapes.
Oh, there's something so nostalgic about the sound of a VHS tape being loaded into a VCR, right? 🎥 I remember spending countless hours watching and rewatching my favorite movies as a kid. There’s a unique charm to VHS tapes – the graininess, the occasional tracking issues, even the ritual of rewinding! 😊
I can recall the excitement of heading to the video rental store with my family, picking out films for the weekend. It was a whole experience, much different than simply clicking 'play' on a streaming service today.
In a world where everything is digital, there's a part of me that misses that tangible, analog interaction. But at the same time, I love how accessible and high-quality digital media has become. Do you have any specific memories tied to VHS tapes?

I miss FBI warnings that you could actually fast forward past. Can't do THAT on a DVD.
Nah I prefer my media not to degrade over time, however if I am feeling nostalgic I actually downloaded some recorded tapes from the internet to have a pseudo 90s TV. I do probably need to buy a recorder to preserve the old tapes and digitize them, but I don't even know where they are.
I still have a collection of video tapes... mostly of the family. I'm in the process of getting them copied digitally.
I sold all my movie video tapes at a garage sale a few years ago, $1 each. I was surprised how fast they went.
Hmmm... I still have my collection of original tapes and a very good player. Not sure what to do with all of it, though...
They were already beginning to become obsolete about the time I knew how to work a VCR.
I miss the thousand or so tapes I used to have. I think the only ones I was able to rescue were The Wonder Years.
No, not at all. I do have 100s of them though because you often find them at yard sales and record fairs at giveaway prices.
I grew in the 80s and I missed the good old days because it brings back great memories.
No, because I still have a couple of VHS machines and a bunch of tapes.
No, I don't miss then as a recording media they are fragile, and the space they took up is considerable.
No as i still have them and a video TV to play them in. But i do prefer online viewing
I still have a large number of them but i think that everything had it's time 🙂
Yes I do miss them yet I also have grown with the times 😁
They were good to keep birds out of the garden.
never used them 🤷♀️
Not at all, too big, poor picture quality and you need to rewind them
Yes because you can record.
definitely not :D
Sure do. Those were great times. 😊❤️
