Do relationships ever work out and progress after a break-up?

If you break up for whatever reason and later on give them a 2nd (or even 3rd chance) and get back together, does it ever work out or you end up leaving them again for the same and/or different reason?

Or has there actually been successful cases of break-ups, getting back with your ex and then even marrying them? Or are break-ups meant to stay as break-ups for a reason?

I can't imagine a relationship (much less marriage) with someone I had to break-up before. A break-up is generally when it has reached a non-negotiatiable level, you're ending the whole relationship, everything.

It happens on what the reason was. If it was because they were taking a short break for other reasons with the promise of getting back within a date, maybe. If they broke up because of trust issues or major betrayal such as cheating or abuse then nope.

Personally I no longer have patience if someone wants to waste my time. My boyfriend knows very well what I want in the relationship. It either leads to marriage or NOTHING. If it leads to a break-up then that's it. You can get the hell out of my life, we're not friends.

In my first relationship my boyfriend and I broke up and got back together. It was a toxic relationship and he was definitely emotionally abusive and an asshole. Did not work out and we broke up for good again. I think if you get to the point of breaking up it shows you aren't meant to be together and it won't work.

Any case I've known they don't. Doesn't mean they can't but I'd say it depends on the original reason and knowing that reason will most likely always be there even if you say or the other says they can look past it or change. It doesn't really work that way

Indeed. Personally I've done the break-up on two past relationships and both were for valid reasons where distrust got involved. There is no way I can imagine going back to them and much less marrying either one of them.
For me, a break-up means either the person or overall relationship failed so badly that there is nothing to negotiate anymore, it has reached the limit. I don't see how anyone can come back from that.

yeah for me, I rarely ever give 2nd chances esp if it's something that has been talked about several times and he care to listen or is inconsiderate of my feelings
I imagine by the time the person gets their 2nd or 3rd (last) chance, it's like they gotta be on their best behavior this time and do a lot more effort than before since you already have a previous bad impression.

I felt suffocated. My intentions when we spoke was to be friends but yet we loved each other and things got all messed up. Only FB now to do a tid bit here and there on my wall or his stupid game wall.

Rarely. It is a constant competition of showing off superiority. Once one person prove it then that is it.

True. Once someone better with no history of issues comes along, it's easier to ditch them again and try with the new person.
