1) Food

Pinnekjøtt is common to eat in my country Norway during Christmas time. It consist of mutton meat and is often eaten with mashed rutabaga.

For me there's no Christmas without the Christmas delicacy. The dinners, desserts and cakes is all part of my celebration and it's at that time of the year I eats better food than usual. For me Christmas and good food is almost synonyms.

24th December which is the date of Christmas eve in my country I eats pinnekjøtt; mutton meat with mashed rutabaga and sometimes risalamanda; a creamy dessert to dessert. Usually I eats roasted turkey with brussel sprouts, carrots, potatoes and sauce a couple of days later after the 24th. In addition during the December month I eats a lot of ginger breads, both the brown one and the white variant kakemann, other cakes like krumkake (directly translated: bent cake) and sjokoladetopper (chocolate top cakes/chocolate rice puffs).

2) Christmas tree

It both decorates my living room, gives me a place to store the gifts and gives me the Christmassy feeling. Without a tree it would be no Christmas.

3) Christmas gifts

Traditions, traditions, traditions! Not only is it a tradition, but it's also fun. I think it's fun to guess what's inside the paper, to find out what's inside it and the intention behind it. It's nice to appreciate that your family and friends have bought something for you, but it's also nice to surprise them. But I was more excited when I was younger since kids are kids. If you're living in a 1st world country like me and isn't poor, knowing what you wish may be a more of a challenge, so therefor we focusing more on the intention and tradition behind it.

4) Christmas decoration

It makes the neighborhood, streets etc. more beautiful to look at and gives the Christmassy atmosphere. It's nice lightning everywhere. With snow it gets even more Christmassy. I do honestly feel sorry for the poor Australians out there who've to celebrate their Christmas in their summer vacation with beaches and barbecue weather. I'm happy I've not that problem!

5) Christmas music

Another element that's needed to get in the right atmosphere and feeling. I could easily forget when it's December if there's no "All I want for Christmas is you" by Mariah Carley, Frank Sinatra's Christmas album or the boy choir Sølvguttene (the silver boys) getting played.

6) The color red

There's many colors I see as significant and very Christmas like. Both red, white, gold and green is nice to the holiday. Especially red is important in my opinion. I wouldn't be able to understand people who don't use the warm and beautiful color red during that time in the season and nor would I accept celebrating the holiday without the use of that color.

This is a big no in my book! No warm loving feeling and no Christmas atmosphere. Sinners!!!

7) Being healthy

Getting a cold or a flu during the winter sucks, and especially during the December month when it's time for having extra much fun and eating good food. When I'm sick I lose the appetite and sometimes I can't taste the flavors properly if I've a heavy cold.
