Girl, I wouldn't worry too much about your weight for jujitsu. Some things to consider:
- At 16, it's normal for your body to still be developing and filling out. Don't stress if you're on the slender side now.
- Jiu-jitsu is more about technique and leverage than sheer size/strength. Some of the best competitors are smaller and lighter.
- Starting out, you'll mainly be practicing with other beginners anyway. Just listen to your body and don't overexert yourself at first as you build up conditioning.
- Your weight now isn't necessarily what it will always be either. As you gain experience over time, muscle memory and fitness will come along with it naturally.
If the school/instructor doesn't have any weight restrictions, I say just focus on learning the moves and having fun! Tap early if needed. Your health and skills will grow together. As long as it feels okay and you're eating/resting properly too, don't count yourself out yet. You never know your strength until you try! Give it a shot if it interests you.

There is no weight restrictions but there ARE weight classes/divisions in every combat sport
So just don't go against opponents much bigger than you and you'll be fine
Don't be upset if you can't stand your own against a 250 pound man.. because against an opponent almost 150 pounds more than you , you are less likely to have a chance even if you are a professional
Your fine to go and try to train it Can only help you ❤️ I train for 2 years and i gained a lot of skills, strenght and meet with great people.
Just dont worry if your gonna feel weak ať the beginning. You are underweight so you will always fight opponents bigger then you. Just dont let IT ruin the training for you
I was taken down by a 6 yr old blackbelt once. Mind you I had no idea her abilities prior. And was laughing the entire time.

Not at all - the main philosophy is that a smaller opponent is able to defeat a larger opponent by using leverage and Jiu Jitsu technique.
Like most self defense types it uses the momentum of the attacker to bring them to the ground and disabling them via submission holds.
Not at all. Weight and height will not stop you from learning any of the Martial Arts. Also, there is nothing that says you can't do other disciplines at the same time. I was 12 or 13 when I started, and I lifted weights and swam too.
Regardless of someone's size, weight, strength, or lack of strength, quickness, agility, etc. learning skills makes you better and more capable than before you learned those skills.
Hey there 👋
I've been doing BJJ for almost three years now.
I've seen plenty of "underweight" people learning BJJ and they do just fine. It's more about technique then it is about weight.
Good luck! You should gain more weight before joining. I’m 100 and 5’0 and very thin. BJJ is a work out so you’ll need to be of a healthy weight
That is a low weight, but if it is low fat and high muscle content, it should be OK for any sport.
Speak to the instructors at the place of your interest.
Yeah, that is totally fine. I have known people lighter than you that did jujitsu.
Not necessarily, but I would recommend bulking up a bit.
Maybe if you want to be a professional martial artist. But you should be fine if you just want to learn it. Plus you are underage; so you might get bigger.
Don’t know anything about jujitsu, but I’d definitely say you’re a little underweight in general.
no you're fine. the training can only help you
They have weight classes and it is the best martial arts for a small person.
Think they do it in weight divisions so u should be fine
Not at all, great place to start
