If I wanted to invite a guy out that didn't like the beach or bars/pubs/clubs, where could we go? He doesn't get out much. I want him to have fun if we go out. It doesn't matter how much it costs.
Natural Sciences Museum, Japanese garden, the Zoo, fishing, a play (not the ballet though!). Take him somewhere interesting where he never went before or haven't done so in a very long time (and maybe misses it?). Would make a fun and memorable experience.
Forgot to add: THE BOOK STORE (an ample and quiet one)! You don't know how many guys, and I'm talking about tattoo, heavy metal, sports car, tard guys, actually enjoyed Barnes and Noble more than I cared for when we went there.
